Chapter 15 - Telemachus Returns

Summary: (Caroline)

At the start of this chapter, Athene goes to Sparta to tell Telemachus to come home. She also warns him about the suitors. Before Telemachus leaves, his is given a silver cup and a beautiful dress as parting gifts. After this, they see an omen of a hawk carrying a goose(which symbolizes Odysseus' killing the suitors), then set off for Nestor's house. Telemachus gets off the carriage before the house, not wanting any more delays, and quickly boards his ship. Before leaving, he is questioned by Theoclymenus, who he allows to come with him. We then go to Odysseus (in disguise as a beggar) and Eumaeus, who are having dinner. Odysseus tests Eumaeus by telling him he plans to go beg in the city the next day and then go to Odysseus' house in an attempt to become a servant, but Eumaeus insists he is not a burden and tells him to stay longer. Then Eumaeus tells Odysseus of his childhood after he asks about Odysseus' parents, after which they go to bed. Lastly, Telemachus arrives in Ithaca, sees an omen of a hawk carrying a dove (which symbolizes Telemachus is the most royal person in Ithaca), then Telemachus sets off to see Eumaeus, the swineherd.
